All About Fence

January 14, 2010  •  Category : Landscaping

Fences are very important structures that are oftentimes undervalued or unnoticed. They are great implementations for protecting one's home from outside elements, and also a proper way of creating boundaries within territories. There are also a lot of other functions for fences aside from those stated, and each one has proven to be quite valuable and indispensable to many men and women, home owners and business owners alike.

A fence is a form of structure that has the ability to support itself vertically, standing upright on its own. The basic design of a fence is to restrict or restrain movement from coming in and out of a territory whose proximity it is protecting. Fences differ from walls because of their different construction methods, the weight of the materials used for making them, and in the fact that fences do not always get in the way of a person's vision. Fences are made out of a variety of different materials, from wood to metal to plastic. Walls on the other handa are made out of bricks, concrete and solid wood.

One of the most common uses for fences is for agriculture. They are also used to protect private properties and to provide temporary or permanent protection for certain territories.

The picket fence is probably the most common type of fence. It is almost always used by homes in order to declare boundaries of properties and land. Many homes in the United States of America make use of picket fences for a classic American home look. Chain link fences are also quite common, and are in most cases used for animal fencing, property enclosures, and such.
