Vintage Style Wedding Favors

January 15, 2010  •  Category : Weddings

Vintage style has been with us for some years now and doesnt look like going away anytime soon. The vintage look has also been popular for weddings where it adds a feminine and romantic touch the day. So if you are planning a vintage style wedding then here are a few ideas for your wedding favors.

Pearls are synonymous with the vintage look and whilst I wouldnt suggest giving all your guests a string of pearls, you can copy the pearl color for your favors. Pearls will vary in color from shades of pink through to creams, champagne and ivory. Many favor box manufacturers make boxes in a pearl finish card which is finished with a luster similar to pearls.

This type of finish is applied to many things from candles and soaps to candy coated and foil wrapped chocolates. You will also find ribbons and card for your labels and tags in pearl finishes, making the perfect accompaniments to the favor boxes.

Make some vintage style favors with champagne colored favor boxes, wrapped with wide paper ribbon in ivory, topped with an ivory colored paper flower (rose, gerbera, daisy), some green colored wire curled around a pencil and stick two or three flat backed pearls on the top.

Lace is another vintage style detail and scented sachets made or trimmed in lace are beautiful wedding favors. You can make these yourself with a simple template. Use fabrics such as silk or satin, or use an allover lace with a net bag underneath to stop the filling falling out. Fill them with lavender or rose buds or some other scented filling.

Check out the favor stores for vintage inspired items such as photograph frames with scroll designs, enamel and crystals. Compacts also have a vintage appeal which would be nice for your female guests, you could give your male guests key chains in a similar style.

Crystal is another material which has vintage style and although crystal itself is too expensive for wedding favors, there are many cheaper variations which make wonderful vintage inspired wedding favors. Candle holders such as candle sticks for dinner candles or low holders for tea lights are a nice option. Bud vases, trinket boxes and coin dishes are other crystal type options for favors.

Creating vintage style wedding favors can be more about the presentation and packaging than the favor itself. Use pale colors in neutrals, pinks, blues and greens with materials such as lace, pearls, and crystal. Metallics are popular this year as well, but you should use antique finish silver, gold and copper to accent your favors.

You can also use vintage style graphics on your favor packaging, labels, tags and stickers to provide an understated vintage touch to your favors. Finally, check out sites like Ebay and Etsy for vintage supplies such as lace, beads, flowers and Lucite elements in large quantities which you could use to accent your favors.
